Universal design, or as we like to call it, Future-Proof Design, accounts for the unexpected events in life, creating spaces that allow for independent living when age or injury impact mobility. For most of our clients, it is about planning for the future, as we are often building the last home they plan to live in, but we can also modify spaces for imminent changes.
Because of our owner’s educational background in Occupational Therapy and his certification as a Certified Aging in Place Specialist, we can offer a perspective and skill-set uncommon in our industry. While most contractors and designers need a third-party consultation to evaluate a client’s specific needs properly, we can assess them from the proper frame of reference in-house. We at Dihedral Homes understand the common musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, and neurological limitations that can occur with age or health challenges and can adapt designs to minimize barriers to independent living.
